Day 3 - The desert...need we say more.
This was our view for hours....days....
Amazing Restaurant in the middle of no where.
I had a huge platter of chicken fried steak.
Quality of Food - 5
Temperature of Food - 5
Entitled to Great Service -5 (She was on it like a fly on poo). Only that needed to be noted is that the bathrooms could use some work.
For being a hole in the wall somewhere in Nevada, I would totally recommend this restaurant. Especially with their menu and tea varieties.
First delivery drop, to no man's land, Nevada.
Three things were grateful today:
1. Wood piece (I don't remember why)
2. Hank felt we should pull over and check our fluids, thank goodness were defiantly need oil
3. That we didn't break down on the side of the road because there was no one and no phone service.
Finally some water
We thought we would never see a sign to Vegas. We thought we would sail today for being jobless however, we busted our butts today. We also realized communication could be worked on. During the hot desolate drive we decided it was best to keep driving when we saw someone pulled over digging a hole in the ground next to their car. (hmmm was it for someone...we didn't dare to stick around and watch). There were also many small towns that we passed around area 51, we found it interesting that there were no humans to be found (total abduction in this part of the world). We felt we should not stop when we saw a glow off yonder, Hank thought it was Vegas, I felt it was another x-file coming on.
After 17 hours of driving, the whole are we there yet really was coming into play. We were excited to finally to to our hotel for the night, Arizona Charlie Casino.
The buffet was super yummy with tons of choices. I started off with donuts and prime rib, can't beat that. We really enjoyed church to day, these two older ladies made us feel super welcome.
Hank was super excited to wear shorts, no more cold weather or snow (we thought).
So there was this little problem where the tree branch reached out and hugged my budget truck. Not a happy camper at this time, especially since Hank keeps telling everyone I hit a tree :(. But no, it was a low over hanging tree in the street that I could not get clear from.
Our next stop Pahrump, Nevada. A place we will never forget. We were so ready to leave the desert but soon realized the desert had other plans for us. We tried to pick up a delivery and soon realized there was an issue with the trailer lighting. Due to having a budget truck full of delivers and more to go we decided it was best to leave the Bronco and trailer in Pahrump and just take the truck to finish our mid to southern Cali drops and come back to Pahrump to deal with the trailer. We drove as long as we could in the truck.
Dare we admit one of our deliveries was a mattress and we decided to see it was worth the money to deliver and actually was pretty comfortable to sleep on a mattress in the back of a 14 foot budget truck. How many people say they had that experience. HA! or better yet sleep the following night on leather coaches in the back of the rented truck. To say the least the next 30 hours were long and the scenery was pretty much flat desert. Something we learned in Cali at the weigh station: there is only one shade of green. Oops...
Once we got into Pahrump that morning around 9am we decided we were both spent - sweaty and sticky. We played hooky, finally a day and night for some R&R. Thank you Golden Nugget!
Pretty good buffet and Hank was happy with his brownie and I had the last slice of pecan pie.
It was fun to just have a date night after all that driving.
I was official, I had my own club card. Here we come Bison Slot Machines.
Bingo and balls on the wall night. Playing balls on the wall just made it even better.
I won bingo on our first round $34 dollars (Karen you would be proud). No luck on the next rounds :(. We dropped off the truck the next morning to deal with my tree issue and the extra 615 miles we added to our mileage. Luckily, the nice girl at the counter waved our mileage, bless her! We left and started our trek to Northern Cali to drop off our deliveries. Our last two stops were at 11:30 pm and 12:30 am in El Cerrito, Cali. We had to be in San Francisco by 7 am.
